As someone who does work & guide in Polar regions, I was sceptical of the name Polar Region Dome, especially having used similar size base camp domes in high latitudes in the past with disappointing results. I run Polar training courses in Alaska, Norway & Greenland and it would be no exaggeration to say that all our gear takes a hammering, our tents used in Winter in Norway/Sweden taking an extra special beating each season from high winds and heavy snow loads. Without exception, all our other large group tents have collapsed, torn or suffered some sort of structural failure. We are now into the second Winter season using a Kailas 5m dome and it is without doubt the best of this type of tent we have used to date. This Winter in particular, we used this for extended periods in some seriously exposed places and it withstood several major storms with ease, nothing broken and offering a degree of group security we have not enjoyed in many decades of doing what we do. I had the advantage of having seen a lot of Kailas kit in use in the Himalayas, so knew this was an established brand. Here in Europe its hardly known and few in the US seem aware of this brand. If you have any doubts about the quality of Kailas gear, don`t, its as good as it gets....and better that a lot that should be good ! The company is easy to deal with, know what they are talking about. We are in the final stages of planning for a 5 month dog sled expedition across the North of Greenland in 2021, some of the most demanding weather on the planet ! Kailas tents with without doubt be our go to shelters for this expedition and our 5m dome will be part of that package ! If you are looking for safe, solid and reliable expedition group shelter, I would put my life on it that you will find no better than this product. Dave King. www.polarquestexpeditions.com
